just get some big normal skylights (the ones that open rot in 5 years, warning!) and have them for your family, you can even set your plants in their path during the day, they are a great addition to a room, don't do it just for the plants

Apparently you can tunnell in Sun light to rooms without windows. These do not even have to be built in a direct line, so no one can see in from the sky. And they do not cost that much to buy, and save you money on your electric bill in the long run.
