Democratic hopefuls call on the Almighty

An unusual trend is emerging in the 2008 presidential election campaign: Democrats seem happier talking about God than Republicans.

Whether it is because Mitt Romney is a Mormon, which is off-putting to many evangelicals, or because Rudy Giuliani (a Catholic) is on his third marriage and supports abortion rights, or because John McCain is an Episcopalian (Anglican) and views faith as a private matter, the three Republican frontrunners see little percentage in bringing God into the discussion.

In contrast, the leading Democrats revelled in the opportunity to discuss their personal beliefs at a debate on "faith, values and poverty" hosted by Sojourners, a centre-left evangelical group, in Washington on Monday night.

looks like they think they can make in roads into the fundamentalist voting block by paying lip-service to christian values. considering the fundies' ingrained mistrust of mormons and catholics, such a trick might actually work. isn't it wonderful how these politicians can use people's bigotry for their own ends and make it seem damn near honorable.

and thanks for the little bit of janis. that little ditty always makes me chuckle.:hippy:

I guess this is cheating, eh? Well, this election will not be over untill a false flag attack occures, I'm guessing July-oct '08'. Then the repubes can squeal with delight as the party that will keep us safe,~LOL~, and the stupid sheeple will not notice it happened under republican stewardship,~LOL~, pathetic!~

i'd look more to a major move in iraq conveniently close to the election. a huge decrease in forces or agreements with insurgent groups. i doubt there will really be that much improvement, but it would give the reps the appearance of having succeeded in the face of dem opposition.

    by the way....
i wouldn't call it cheating, just politics as usual. second rate actors with multi-million dollar props and lighting.
