I think the area you live in has a lot to do with it. Living on the coasts in the US is a completely different way of life than in the midwest. Same thing with all large cities in the world.

I don't lock my doors, or worry about my car getting stolen, and I love it.
I hear you but fck i live in a small beach town in south Australia and its not like were over populated I can leave my doors unlocked but i cant take my kids to the park without worrying that theyre gonna step on a needle.
