Umm, no that actually isn't how it works, I just got legal so I know the whole process (and yes I am very medicated right now:stoned

First, this is what the law states in Prop 215:
To ensure that seriously ill Californians have the right to obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes where that medical use is deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician who has determined that the person's health would benefit from the use of marijuana in the treatment of cancer, anorexia, AIDS, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine, or any other illness for which marijuana provides relief.

Now if you have any of those conditions, you are pretty much set.

Second, you need a doctor that will write a letter or recommendation stating that with his first amendment right to freedom of speech, in his best medical profession, recommends marijuana as a beneficial treatment for your condition. However, legally he CANNOT give/prescribe you marijuana, he can't even tell you where to go and get it. That part is all up to you and a little friend called Google.

Third, If your doctor does not give you a recommendation, you take your medical records to a different doctor that will. Typically these other doctors charge about $150 for the visit.

After that, just do some internet searches to find a dispensary.
