Stevie was a master. He had a style of his own. His fingers would bleed sometimes because he played with such thick strings. now thats hxc.

He had very strong hands, and the string gauges were such that he had bass guitar frets custom-installed on his guitars. His setup started with an .013 for the high E string: 013, .015, .019 (plain), .028, .038, and .058.

Edit: I'd once read that he started with .014, but I guess it was an unfounded rumor.
