Stevie's Da Man. Of course, I live in Texas.

My husband and son like to put Stevie Ray's greatest hits on the stereo real loud and just move around or sit and bob their heads to the music like bobbleheads. The bobbing gets especially pronounced during "Pride and Joy." All this while smiling and, under ideal circumstances, drinking beer, too.

Stevie was a master. He had a style of his own. His fingers would bleed sometimes because he played with such thick strings.

He had very strong hands, and the string gauges were such that he had bass guitar frets custom-installed on his guitars. His setup started with an .013 for the high E string: 013, .015, .019 (plain), .028, .038, and .058.

Edit: I'd once read that he started with .014, but I guess it was an unfounded rumor.
