I liked them from the beginning, almost 40 years ago, and saw them at the Fillmore East in 1971, around the time that Aqualung came out.
I just put on the CD of Stand Up, which I believe is their second album. Great stuff from the past. This album must have been played an unfathomable amount of times when people got together to smoke dope. The gatefold album cover featured a "pop-up" drawing of the band. In those days, all pot had seeds, and gatefold album covers were an excellent platform to clean and roll pot on.
I've got more, including their first, "This Was" on both vinyl and CD, and the 2002 CD, Living with the Past .
I never really thought about it, but they could very well be my favorite rock band also. They always did a very good job of combining hard rock, folk, and jazz into their own style.
If you don't already have it, I'd recommend Stand Up.
