Thinking of Moving to AK
Hey Yeag, Stinky and the rest. Well, Blue Bear up here and wouldn't have it any other way at this point.
Summer has been nice, extremely nice. They just had the Salmon derby 2 weeks ago and you could take the city bus right down there with pole and all and go for it. Being an Ak res you can get a poppers fishing license for a few bucs.
Light pretty much all night long so if you get an itch you could take the pooch out for a walk in the midnight sun and toke a little J or blunt.
Valley is nice, but getting a little crowded, but on the whole you can still get lost out there without a problem.
Meth heads usually are more out towards Fairbanks and on the out skirts of town, but to be honest I rarely run into any, but then again, that's just not my scene either.
You can keep a four wheeler in the truck all year round, or switch up in the winter and pull out a snow machine. I think that the local snow machine shop is rated one in the nation for sales and 1 or 2 of some big machine race/climbing names stay up here.
Alaska is a simple yet divers state where the people are still nice, plenty of opportunity, but like any place there are going to be winers, slackers and people out to get you, luckily I think that the winter helps to buffet that kind of person from becoming an epidemic up here slackers don't like to shift in a place where the only hand out that they're going to get is a snow ball to the ear and a white wash in the snow.
Winter is nice for me, it helps me get back to my inner self and all that warm and fuzzy/insane stuff for some reason. During the winter I like to put things into perspective, seeing where I have been over the last year or so and work on my self. I also appreciate things like the winter holidays a little more, the hot coco with the kids, sledding, catching up on reading and hobbies and other in door projects that get put off in the summer. I think that for the more social butterfly type that has to be on the go everyday it can be taxing, but for the creative, reflective person who can make do and appreciate irony and a host of Alaskan type activities and people then you will make it. Clear as mud?
Well, Adieu

does Alaska still give residents the annual oil-payment benefit, or did they do away with it, I had heard it was about $2000/year ... ? ... :smokin:
