Causes of male plants

So my plants just sexed and I ended up with only one female out of three. Any ideas on what causes male vs. female plants? The only two things I can think of that might have happened to me were there was a three hour power outage in my place about mid way through veg. and I had a fairly high PH (7.8) which I didn't address till right before I want 12/12. Or is it just the luck of the draw with the seed? I'm glad I got one but I'm pissed none the less.

Could be either way! I had a run of 7 males before the females started showing! Talk about frustration! Think of it this way- if you drew 4 cards, would you be surprised if 3 were red? 7 was pushing the odds! Just clone your girl and be happy! - Granny:hippy:

I'd put my money on the PH...I read on here a while ago that cooler temps during early growth helped the odds of females..

isnt it like nature?....not our choice? i started with 12 plants and ended with 2 females.....just why you dont only plant one plant...
