You can't kill an idealism
desperate people are prone to desperate acts and when they are directed by the unscrupulous those acts can be turned in some rather perverse directions. yes, it is an oversimplification. if you'd like; i can go into religious fanaticism, rabid tribalism or simple psychotic behavior. however, sometimes the simplest reasons are the best and in this case it fits. though not everyone who is performing these acts fits within the confines of this narrow definition, a majority of those blowing themselves up for the sake of islam are those with little to lose and the promises of the afterlife seem a wonderful alternative to their life here. considering the drab life available under theocratic rule, even i would prefer the glory of ending my life as a martyr.
