    restoring an old pipe

hey guys and gals, hows she hangin.

im one of them smokes when he can get some guys because the flow around here is never consistent, so far ive gone a month without any weed but in that time ive saved enough to buy a large enough amount to get me through the impending dry period after that.

Anyway, in the time i've been dry, i've been bored. Just moved into my grandparents house who passed away last year whom i loved dearly. When i was about 5 or so and for a few years after that my poppy smoked tobacco out of a pipe. When rummaging through the old stuff my mom had packed away i found his old pipes, one has a cracked mouth piece but the other one is fine. Wooden bowl with plastic stem, classic tobacco pipe.
Me being a fan of the classy look while getting high i want to pay respects to my poppy because i never saw him in the last weeks that he passed. I want to put his favorite pipe back into the fray but i want to use it with pot, only thing is, all the years he smoked out of it i dont think he cleaned the poor thing once. So as you may expect its got a few centimeters of tar and resin thats rock hard built up around the bowl. I scraped a bit off with a knife and tried baking soda and vineger but that did nothing. Me without a real piece other than a brand new tobacco pipe i bought off ebay that has a large, deep bowl thats too big for a screen but i managed to find an old tap filter and put a screen on that and mount that on the pipe and it works half decently but the hole for breathing is too small and you gotta have the sucking power of pam anderson to get the lighter to go into the bowl.

Anyway again, is there anyway i can get that old caked up shit out of the pipe and maybe make it useable without sucking back old tar and cancer and shit? Suggestions will be much appreciated.

i dunno man id best try to find some tobacco pipe forums and ask them because wood is different you cant just use alcohol on it and shit because wood soaks it in......the most easy way i can think of is get a gun cleaning brush with nylon or even soft brass/steel brushes on it depending on the size of the hole where the smoke goes but one for a bbgun might work try that may help ive had to use a gun cleaning brush on my bowl a few times and worked good

nobody seems to know how i can efficiently get rid of the large amount of caked up shit in it, this project may take awhile. and after some research, alcohol on wood is fine.

if alcohal on wood is fine i would try soaking it in rubbing alcohal, than possibly flush it out with hot water. heat it up and scrape it, i dunno these are all just outta my ass, dont know much about cleaning old wood pipes.

good luck, would be pretty cool if you could get it clean and smokin again

Well, this is my way of paying respects to him. I love getting high in this house because it brings back so many memories. Strange, people usually dont remember things while high.
