Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day, to honor Union soldiers who died in the civil war. After WWI, it was changed to honor all the soldiers that died in any of our military conflicts. This is a very important holiday.

The purpose of the Fourth of July (Independence Day), has been, in recent times, frequently misinterpreted as a holiday to honor all the soldiers that died in service, or "veterans" in general. While this sentiment is not at all based on bad intentions, it is not representative of what the holiday really stands for.

Let's keep the fallen soldiers and our freedoms in our memories on Memorial Day, and every day.
