    my drying idea... any thoughts?

I'm thinking of just putty all my fresh trimmed buds in a large rubber made container with newspaper and changing the paper every day. Would that work? People say you need to hang them with moving air to prevent mold. But newspaper absorbs more water then air does, so I'm thinking this will work.

WHAT!? No, that's not how it works. Newspaper vs air re: water absorption... fine if you are mopping up a spill... but ever hear of evaporation? How can a storm cloud hold enough water to flood a town? Please don't try to reinvent the wheel.. you know the right way to do it... trying to put it in a rubbermaid tub instead of hanging sounds like something that a kid who is trying to hide his shit from his parents would come up with....

I'm not a kid trying to hid it from my parents. I live in an apartment, I'm growing outdoors, and I don't have a good place to dry openly. I'm concerned with the smell. I figure if I just open that tub once a day to change the paper, then my bathroom vent and a charcoal filter could handle the smell before any neighbors noticed anything.

Have you actually seen and compared the two methods? Evaporation into the air occurs because the air is dryer then the buds. Well... newspaper is dryer then air even! So it should evaporate even better wrapped in newspaper (assuming of course that you change it *every day*). I agree if you started missing days and stuff then my method would actually encourage mold. The "open air" method is much more low maintenance and easier. But if you change that paper every day, I would think the rubbermaid method could work fine.

    Are you sure it wouldn't?

hey i dont know how much you have and some will dissagree with me, but paper grocery bags work fine for me. then when dry enough glass jars to cure. the other idea which i plan to try myself is made out of a rubbermaid and has several layers of screens or drying racks stacked up in it. with an intake hole and a pc fan (bathroom vent)to exhaust. if you put the fan on the top you could put a layer of charcoal over it to absorb the smell.
    aint she pretty?

Paper bags and a bunch of newspapers in a PLASTIC container are really different.
The water has nowhere to go... you're gonna end up with a bunch of newspapers that are exactly as damp as the buds.
I do part of my drying in paper bags... but only AFTER a ~4 day hang, depending on %RH. They are already pretty darn dry.
But you can do it how you like.

I have used the large brown paper grocery bag method in the past and had success. You have to open a couple times/day, and rattle them around a tad. But newspaper in tupperware? No - that's too risky for mold.
