An ion is just a molecule that has lost or gained an electron. THC is a molecule so it transfers from the smoke to your bloodstream instantaneously when you take a hit. Like others have said, within a couple of seconds the THC is absorbed. When you hold your tokes longer, pollutants (tar) remain in contact with your lung tissue for longer than necessary.

i personally hold it maybe 3-5 seconds and exhale

it definitely is not being lightheaded or oxy depravation (unless youre a 90 year old with emphysema, 10 seconds shouldnt give you lightheadedness -_-) .

but when your smoking your arent breathing in pure oxygen. its not like your taking a big breath of oxygen and than holding your breath, your taking a big breath of smoke. lots of people like to totally empty there lungs before a hit too, than inhale all that smoke, and hold it. thats a long time without some good ole o2

CannabisCrooz is right. most people empty their lungs before a hit, and smoke doesn't have any oxygen in it. Combined with holding it in, you don't have to be a 90 year old with emphysema to get light headed, especially after a few tokes.

I always argue with my friends about this since they hold it in for like 5+ seconds when I tell them that it does nothing else for you after the first couple of seconds since it all gets absorbed almost instantly. I'll be sure to tell them what you said above next time.
