Dems: Fight over Iraq war has just begun

WASHINGTON - Democrats may have lost the first round with President Bush on ending the war in Iraq since taking over Congress in January, but they say their fight has just begun.

In the months ahead, lawmakers will vote repeatedly on whether U.S. troops should stay and whether Bush has the authority to continue the war. The Democratic strategy is intended to ratchet up pressure on the president, as well as on moderate Republicans who have grown tired of defending Bush administration policy in a deeply unpopular war.

"I feel a direction change in the air," said Rep. John Murtha (news, bio, voting record), D-Pa., chairman of the House panel that oversees military funding.

It's actually something I stumbled on after the invasion. I had a friend that was going to Mexico and wanted to know exchange rates and out of curiosity I started looking at different ones. When I spotted how out of line Iraq was compared to the rest of the region.....well, the rest is history.

Part of the economic plan is a reval of the currency to at least a 1:1 and possibly up to their old levels of 1IQD:3.29US. With what I got that would translate to somewhere between 4.5-12 mill U.S..

A person doesn't need that much in my eyes but there is a hell of alot of good that can be done with it HERE in the states. Whether it be homes for Katrina, helping some vets, homeless shelters, etc... I'm pretty meager; I got my bike....a house would be nice and besides that just enough to live on and all is cool.

As far as "losing" that won't happen.......right now I can go to several banks here in the states and actually have a 10% gross profit on my investment.

In the first Gulf War the same situation happened with Kuwaits currency and MANY people made some big cash. I was all for that war, disappointed that we didn't clean up at that time and I knew NOTHING regarding currencys so the suggestion of that is why I'm on board is out of the question........it's about what's right and wrong with me.

By the way, ya know George Soros? BIG TIME left winger that preaches about on how we shouldn't have been there so on and so forth..........HEAVILY invested into Iraqs currency. That's the same dude that made out HUGE on the Euro!

So let me get this straight, for a thousand bucks, I can get 1,259,000 Iraqi Dinars? And if the war goes south, like it's going I'll lose a thousand bucks. But if some miracle occures like the Kurds and sunnis and shiites all start holding hands and singing kumbaya, I could get rich. Jeeze even with my negative thinking that is about as good as buying a thousand lotto tickets! Where do I buy them, at a bank?

The banks that WERE selling are doing nothing but buying now for "some odd reason" You can still purchase off from e-bay but be carefull that they are actually NEW Iraqi dinar and NOT the Saddam Dinar.

As for myself, I HIGHLY recommend this site:
    IraqPaperMoney supporting Investor's Iraq Forum

Every bill that I have recieved I checked for authenticity and there has been NO PROBLEMS with either that or delivery. IF you do decide to go with this I'd recommend buying in the smaller demoninations. The tax code states that anything over $10,000 has to be reported and if cashed in within a one year period it's considered a short term investment taxable by 28%...over a year is 15%. With the smaller denominations you could cash in LESS than the $10,000 at a time and save yourself the tax. Oh yeah, as far as them changing currencys.....this one is the most protected as far as security features in the world today. Even more secure from forgery than the Euro.

I've been following this since 04-03 and it's NOW not a matter of if but when. Debt has been reduced to almost nothing not to mention ventures in oil and gas developement. Also, the region wants Iraqs currency to be put more in line to create a better trade enviroment.

If there is any other info ya want.....we can either discuss it here or through e-mail. Just remember....EVERYTHING in life is a risk! It's just that now with the U.S. pushing for their "economic plan" to be passed along with the oil bill....this is looking more promising than ever! Hell, I invested when the CPA was still in control.

The dinar was introduced into circulation in 1931, replacing the Indian rupee, which had been the official currency since the British occupation of the country in World War I, at a rate of 1 dinar = 13⅓ rupees. The dinar was pegged at par with the British pound until 1959 when, without changing its value, the peg was switched to the U.S. dollar at the rate of 1 dinar = 2.8 dollars. By not following the devaluations of the U.S. currency in 1971 and 1973, the dinar rose to a value of US$3.3778, before a 5% devaluation reduced the value of the dinar to US$3.2169, a rate which remained until the Gulf War, although in late 1989, the black market rate was reported as being five to six times (1.86 dinars for US$1) higher than the official rate.[1]

After the Gulf War in 1991, and due to the economic blockade, the previously used Swiss printing technology was no longer available. A new, inferior quality notes issue was produced. The previous issue became known as the Swiss dinar and continued to circulate in the Kurdish region of Iraq. Due to excessive government printing of the new notes issue, the dinar devalued fast, and in late 1995, US$1 equalled 3000 dinars.

Following the deposition of Saddam Hussein in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Governing Council and the Office for Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance began printing more Saddam dinar notes as a stopgap measure to maintain the money supply until new currency could be introduced.

Between October 15, 2003 and January 15, 2004, the Coalition Provisional Authority issued new Iraqi dinar coins and notes, with the notes printed by De La Rue using modern anti-forgery techniques, to "create a single unified currency that is used throughout all of Iraq and will also make money more convenient to use in peopleā??s everyday lives."[2] Old banknotes were exchanged for new at a one-to-one rate, except for the Swiss dinars, which were exchanged at a rate of 150 new dinars for one Swiss dinar.

Although the value of the dinar appreciated following the introduction of the new banknotes from 4000 dinars per U.S. dollar, at the time of their introduction, to a high of 980 dinars per dollar, it is now held at a "program" exchange rate, as specified by the International Monetary Fund[citation needed], of 1263 dinars per US dollar at the Central Bank of Iraq. However, there is not yet a set international exchange rate and so international banks do not yet exchange Iraqi dinar. The exchange rate available on the streets of Iraq is currently around 1500 dinars per US dollar (April 2006).
