Scientology - ultimate defamation thread

I am so sick of this Scientology bullshit.

I hope all my British buddies caught the panorama recently with John Sweeny on Scientology. I'm not particularly a fan of religion by default but I draw the line at this ridiculous, shameless, leaching cult. I'm sure most of you know the details but let's just look at some of the key facts about scientology:

- The process of entry and promotion in the cult is entirely dependant on how much money you donate.

- The creator of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, who wrote a book about the fundamentals of the cult, which includes an alien race (complete with evil emperor), giant 747 space rocket ships, soul catchers and a giant cat on a hangglider, admitted to being totally rocked on class As at the time.

- Any attempt to get close to the organisation results in invasion of your privacy at the hands of Scientologist cronies via such means as breaking and entering your property, hiring PIs to track your every move and being photographed wherever you go.

- A Scientologist must cut off all contact from any accomplices that are not Scientologists. This includes friends and family.

- The faith basically amounts to the promise of eternal life and happiness, so long as you pay enough.

- The church frequently uses criminal activities to forward it's agenda and promote new members. When attacked, criticised or even questioned, they use bureaucracy and law to attack the culprit right back to the fullest degree.

And let's not forget the long list of immensely whacked out sub-laws, such as when a women is giving birth they're not allowed to make a single sound :thumbsup: .

I might have posted this in the religion section, but the simple, logical, concrete fact is, this is no religion and it is not a faith. It is a total outright scam that takes advantage of the weak minded and unintelligent. The things is, I have very little pity for them as you'd really have to be braindead to fall for any of it.

I would say Scientology is VERY different from any other religion. However sceptical your opinion of a religion is, people are able to find hope and a genuine benefit in their faith. Whilst many religions can be approached in many different ways, Scientology functions only as a fundamentalist religion, one that sucks in the vulnerable with false hope and promises, demands they pay their money, demands they forget about their family and demands total, 100% obedience. And for what? Some fucking drug addicts bad trip that sounds like a bad 1980s cartoon.

I don't think it preys on the vunerable, people have freewill entering a cult and if they let themselves become brainwashed than that's just that. Scientology isn't exactly an economy in its own right, WallMart is much worse in my opinion.

Its run by intolerable people but then again alot of religion is like that, blindsight faith with the emphasis on blind. These people obviously do very well at doing whatever it is they do, the fact Tom Cruise is a scientologist and he has completely lost the plot makes a bold statment in my opinion.

It depends on your definition of "man made false religion". As far as anyone knows, all religions could be man made, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are false. Just because they're based on things that may not have happened, and revolve around a being (or beings) that may not exist, it doesn't mean that the core values of the religion are bad. I for one do not believe in God or any other deity, but I certainly don't condemn the people that do, and are trying to make the world a better place. They may well be misguided, but why should that bother me? As long as nobody is being hurt or made to feel like they're less of a person because they don't follow a particular faith, then let them get on with it, I say.
It's the people that don't let people have their own beliefs that get to me, and Scientology are not alone here. There are extremist branches of most other religions that promote hate towards other faiths, or intolerance to those who don't follow. However, Scientology seems to be the only one that pursues this way of thinking as a whole. I can't think of any popular religion that doesn't promote love and forgiveness at it's heart apart from Scientology. They exist purely to make money, and they don't give a fuck about who gets hurt in the process. Plus they have absolutely no problem in backtracking to avoid answering "embarrassing" questions. For instance, although the tale of Xenu and all that crap is supposedly the basis of their faith, many now seem to be denying the validity of it all. In the Panorama programme, not one of the "stars" that follow the faith would allow their comments to be shown, despite the fact that they were being interviewed in front of a camera, and apparently none would comment at all on the Xenu tale.

Anyway, I'm rambling because Scientology pisses me off majorly, and I haven't had my morning joint yet. I'm off to make a cup of tea and roll a fat one.

P.S. If any Scientology lawyers are reading this - :stoned: That's what L. Ron Hubbard was doing when he made up your "religion".
