Cold Water Extraction: Ghetto Style

I just sorta mixed both the ghetto style
and gumby hash method.
I let it sit from last night at @ 12.
Until this morning at 12.
I siphoned off 3/4 of the water.
Then poured the remaining water and trichs
into a 1.5L glass jar. I let everything fall to the bottom.
Then siphoned off as much water as i possible could.
I poured the mixture onto doubled up wax paper and it is now
sitting on my dining room table drying. I took a spoon and put it into smaller piles.
hoping to dry it faster. I have a ceiling fan above it and an oscillating fan about 4 ft. away from it. Im thinking it should only be 2-3 more hours to dry it.
Would putting it in the freezer help?? Answer back soon Thanks.

What sort of material did you use to strain out the plant material initially? Silk screen? Cheese cloth? Yo mama's silk stalkings pulled out pretty tight so that no trichs get caught in them? Metal mesh like in the gumby video? I'd really like to know from anyone with experience what the best way to go is, preferably not the silk screen because those are a bitch to find.

I'm really glad you have all had such amazing success making hash with almost not money investment, and am eager to make my big ass pile of shake into something worth looking at as soon as possible.

Does anyone else with experience in this process have any other advice?

As far as I understand it -
Add trim to very cold water with ice, agitate
screen out the plant material so you have only the trich water, through whatever means
Transfer water to another, clean bucket (?)
Allow water to sit 6 - 12 hours so trichs can settle to bottom.
Siphon off water as much as reasonable without distrubing trichs
Pour into a taller, narrower container, allow to sit for hours, continue siphoning until as much water as possible is removed.
Pour what remains in the jar onto doubled up wax paper and dry by whatever means necessary, and then consume heady coldwater hash.
Right?

Also, I think I read once that throwing the trim into the freezer for a few hours beforehand helps the process, and ALSO that you can freeze the trim after the water extraction process and do it again to get additional hash from the material. Granted, this was associated with some 400 dollar bag system, but its all the same principle.

That's a great method. I was just sorting thru a bunch of pictures I have of this method. I was going to post a thread, but seems like you got stickied, so maybe I'll just add them onto your thread if that's cool.

IMO, using the large fan leaves is detrimental to the quality of your hash. If you use just the small leaves that are attached to the bud, you should get a more pure hash with less green material. When I post my pics, you will see the difference. One has greener water, and the other is more yellowish...less green. I suggest only using leaves with VISIBLE trichomes.

The way I learned it was the GUMBY HASH method. Here is a link to an awesome vid that describes it all. A little different, but basically the same. Good thread, Perp.

couldn't you get considerably more hash if you took all the trim liquid from the 5 gallon and spread it up into a bunch of smaller jars and just wait till their all almost evaporated and pour it all out on wax paper. wait till all moisture has evaporate and get much more hash? i kno it would take longer but that brow liquid he poured out from the 5 gallon looked pretty gold

Hey Perp, any thoughts on using dry ice. Besides the fact that it would look great smoking up the place. Would it help to be even colder. . .

and what about a potato smasker instead of the cake mixer? Thanks alot for the thread. . .

Dry ice will not get water as cold as water based ice will. In fact Dry ice and water (in a pop bottle) makes a pretty cool explosion. Just don't hold the bottle while you try it and stand back a few feet.

Way to get the water to be colder would be to use salt.

Anyone know what salt would do to the resulting hash? Would it be horrible to smoke? Would the colder water make a difference?
