only small engine i ever drove that had the feel of a v8 was the engine in a volkswagen beetle... dont get me wrong, it wasnt stock AT ALL... it was my friend who is a pro at restoring cars, took ti from a junkyard, made the shit so awesome... it easily hit 60 in 4.3 and we got it to 130 on the jersey turnpike in only 3rd gear, shit had that low growl/burble that usually goes with a nice fatty v8... and from a rally inline 6 (i think, im not sure) my dream car used to be a 67 camaro with a 454 roots blown zz series and just horsepower for miles haha
but sheeit, thats just too expensive on gas.
