OOPs, I must have missed that they had nute burn...in my defense, I did notice that you said you burned them with the CFL. Yes, I think you should def, get your ph kit. With you adding the MG soil, you ph may get thrown out of whack, like real quick like! But even if it doesn't (which for those of you who remember our dear GK, the knowm used water that had a ph of 8 with MG soil and that made it perfect, quick someone post that link!!) you are going to need it basically soon as you use nutes. At least that is my experience.....It's always good to ck your runoff after adding something...
Also chem ferts do tend to bring the soil ph down after time....

Now lemme tell you my experience with ph kits. I've bought the soil one from soilmaster (UTTER crap), one for testing pools/spas (okay if you can differentiate colors Real well), and a Hanna student ph tester (the best I've had thus far but I've found things that I wish I would have noticed before I plopped down the moolah, about 25). If you go for the digital, I've heard Milwaukee has one for 40 that is good...info from Latewood in another post somewhere....The thing I don't like about mine is it has two calibration points (blech more work for me) and that the points move much too easy and I end up having to calibrate it everytime I use it.

WOW, I wrote a freaking book!! I probably gave you way more info than you even wanted, but for some reason I felt like sharing.
