Unfortunately, the present leader of the country I was born in (and still vote in despite living in Aus for a bit more than a decade) has lied to the American people one too many times (wot WMDs, hey? Saddam=Al Qaeda? not...).

I have no problem with busting and jailing REAL terrorists. However, David Hicks didn't bomb anything nor shoot anything at anyone... AND was held without charge or trial by the 'land of the free and home of the brave' for 5 friggin' years. So much for the right to a speedy trial.

The US would not subject its own citizens to the bogus Gitmo kangaroo courts they call 'military tribunals,' where evidence obtained by torture is admissible- but Aussies were totally fair game... and John Howard LET them get away with it.
