changing a court date
Can anyone give me any advice on this. I have to go to court over a being under the influence of cannabis even though I had none on me. The date is july 3rd right in the middle of my parents big vacation they wanted me to come on, I haven't told them yet (im 18). Is it possible to change this date or is it certain. Earlier or later works

wasn't driving, the cop said it would be just the same as if I were drunk in public
any ideas of what the charge would be would be great too. Should I expect fines, community service...probation or what?

I had to do the same thing. Just write a letter stating why you need to appeal, they'll mail you back with another date. but don't do it at the court house or you'll be charged $80.

Hey Biz I think appeals are for when you are found guilty and then appeal the decision...
Just call the court and ask for an adjournment because you are scheduled for surgery that day... best thing is to hire a lawyer to schedule the adjournment...

the level of misinformantion on this site is unbelieveable at times..
it is is illegal to be under any substance in public, period (aside from prescribed meds) you drink and cause shit? guess what, you can be charged with public intoxication... guess what else? on illegal drugs? public intoxication...
btw, it's a general term, the charges don't say "public intoxication of alochol or cannabis" it's just public intoxication... so if the cop wants to be an ass all he has to do is prove you're intoxicated (which is pretty damn easy)
yo udon't have to have a joint in your pocket to prove that, nor do you have to be in possession for it to hold up in court...
nextline, best thing you could do is get a lawyer and ask him to try and push for a re-schedule, but all the tiems i've been to court i've had to be in court on that date even for a reset...
in short, you're screwed.
