AeroGrow - stupid question?

Hi, all. I have been wanting to try a small, somewhat stealthy grow for awhile now. But I am really awful at growing things, and I don't want to set-up a grow room because I need to be able to ditch it quickly, and my parents just visited, so I haven't wanted to start anything recently.

However, my boyfriend saw this thing on TV today, and I was wondering what you guys, who know what you are doing, would think about this. I know you would have to get a lowriding strain or one of the weird ones that shrubs (I saw Storm Crow post something about a strain like this, and was interested), but I am still of the opionion that the light would be too close to the tops of the plants. My boy thinks I am wrong, so I figured I would ask you guys.

Please don't be too hard on me if it completely won't work and this was a really dumb question, I don't really know much about growing yet.

hey vileoxidation , im not sure what that thing is using for lighting probally sometype of very small floro tube. And you would need some way to measure the ppm of the fertilizers . On top of that it is very small and probally wouldnt have enuff lighting to produce anything.

If you want to do a small stealth grow start in soil (its more forgiving) , Get a three pack of 26watt 6500k "Ge daylight" cfl's light's from walmart for vegg (like $7.50), along with 4-6 26 watt 2700k "Ge soft white" cfl's to add during flower( around $15). Get walmarts expert gardener brand soil ($2.50 for a 10 quart bag) , and a bag of perlite ($2). Mix the soil 75%soil/25%perlite. Also Get walmarts expert gardener all-purpose 28-8-16 fertilizer for veg(like $4), and miracle grow bloom booster fert for flower(like $5). Also get a timer for walmart (like $6)(for the 12/12 cycle). And get one of there small "home trends" desk fans for ventalation there only like $5 bucks. Then go to a nursery/home depot/lowes/ and get either a ph test kit for soil ($10) or a ph probe for soil ($15-20). Or go to a pet store and get a ph test kit for fish tanks. I would say grow 2-3 small plants because you wont know if you have a female plant until you switch to flower. Set this lil setup in some small cabinet and flower when there small (you would get better yield with a longer veg and lst and scrogging the plants), you could do more then this using your diy skills , like make some sorta carbon filter ect. Just a lil advice , I dont think you would be happy with that device. There are many people on here who have had success with cfl's. And it is at least a start into the world of growing.
Try and find an area thats at around 24-36 inches tall , and about 15-20 inches wide and you should do just fine with this little setup.

Thank you! Yeah, I was pretty sure that it wouldn't work cause its just too....weird. The boyfriend thought it was worth asking, though.

I will try this set-up. I have some small areas like that that I can conceal pretty well, and that doesn't sound too costly (I am a college student, after all) so I could probably afford it. Thank you so much for the great advice!! I need to go to the store....

Yea doing a cfl grow can be very cheap , you just gotta know where to get suppply's at and you cant get much cheaper then walmart for cheap grows lol.You will need cheap extension cords (1.50each) and y-adapter's for lights (they let you plug to bulbs in 1 socket) (1.50 each) and a socket plug (basically it lets you plug a light bulb into a electrical outlet there $1) so with each exension cord/1 socket plug/2 y-adapters/ you can have 4 cfl bulb's. (and it dosent require any wiring! just plug and play , lol) all those things can be had near the lighting section in walmart.
