    Does Size Really Matter?

I found a new hydro store a little closer to my home today, so I thought I'd go check them out. Upon entering the store, it was obvious who their customers are. If I was going to trick-out a grow room, I could probably do it in one stop at this place.

    But that's beside the point...

They had a carbon filter that measured 18" diameter x 42" (that's 46cm x 107cm). I'm a construction kinda guy and I toss heavy things around every day, but when I tried to lift this filter it didn't want to come off the ground. It probably weighs around 200 lbs. (91 kilos).

How big a growroom do you have to have to need a fucking 200 pound carbon filter?

All of this is just pretend. But if I grew marijuana, it would be in strict compliance with California Law, SB420.

Maybe it was bolted down...or full of carbon...or both?

    Wait 18" diameter?! That's pretty big...but 42" tall isn't that abnormal. I dunno...sorry I don't have much info on that...but it doesn't sound right.

Edit: now that I think about it, it could be right, but maybe it's just full of carbon so that's why it's so heavy. I think I've seen filters that big in rooms about 10 by 10 or something. Not too big. Big rooms...lotsa air...big fans = big filters, I guess, bro.

Fog - the filter was heavy because it was full of carbon, and because of the steel structure of the filter. This was a big, self-contained, filter unit, designed to fit into an even larger filter holder built into the ventillation/ducting sytem.

But think about it - that filter is used with either a 24" or 18" (the size of the inside hole on the filter) duct. 24" duct and 18" duct are the size duct you see hanging from the ceiling of the Home Depot. It's huge! You're talking about venting some serious cubic footage with a filter that size.
