IMO trying to boycott big oil is a losing strategy. Think about it this way, if raising the price of gas has little or no effect on the amount of consumption, then why shouldn't they keep raising prices? In fact the oil companies have a legal obligation to maximize profit, they have to keep charging more. The onus is on the consumers to stop using so much gas, then and only then will prices drop.
