1st timer with Outdoor growing question

Now I've heard different folks talk like Miracle Grow is crap to use, but they are all over the charts as to what to use in it's place. I know there is some special food for the plants that helps flowering yet I can't find a name for something here in the USA that could work.
I also have another question about pesticides.... which would be good to use on my plants and not harmful to smoke later I know alot say the organics are the way to go but I was just wanting to see if I could get some feedback. I will post pictures of my grow later I put 18 down and have 10 up in just 4 days. I used something called Jiffy Mix (you can find it at Wal-Mart and it works like a champ) for seed germination and growth.

I don't know too much about the soil/fert, I just got some good topsoil and tomatoe fert, I do know that you want around 20-20-20(this also depends on what stages of the grow you're at).

About the pesticides...just get something that says safe for fruits/vegetables. And remember, anything you add to your plant/soil(fert, soil, chemicals, pesticides) that you're worried about tasting or smoking after the harvest and everything, just stop giving it to the plant 1-2 weeks before harvest.
