PARIS (Reuters) - Conservative leader Nicolas Sarkozy triumphed in France's presidential election on Sunday, beating his Socialist rival Segolene Royal by a comprehensive margin and extending the right's 12-year grip on power.

That would mean the french government so reviled by the right in the US has been the conservatives all along? I knew that already, but felt it bore mention.
