    how did you quit tobacco?

Last time I quit I chewed the gum crap.. The gum chewing only lasted a few days, then suddenly I was like screw this and stopped chewing the gum and quit for over a year.. Part of it was I was pretty drunk the whole time I was going through withdrawals, every time I had a urge to smoke I took a swig off a 40oz, eventually I would be so drunk I just passed out and got another day out of the way.. When a year or so later that I started back up again it was one of the most stressful times I have ever been through, and by stressful I mean I was almost insane with grief and confusion and ended up taking up smoking as a crutch, and haven''t stopped since then.. Shit is depressing really cause I know I am going to die if I don't stop, hopefully this new job I am getting will help me quit (and be able to afford quiting, those patches and gum aint cheap)

anyways, enough babbling, best of luck to you man, you won't regret your decision to quit after it is all over. It is amazing to notice how good food tastes and how good a full breath of air feels as a non smoker
RedLocks Reviewed by RedLocks on . how did you quit tobacco? i decided to quit recently, although my plan hasn't really fallen into action yet. i keep telling myself im not going to buy a pack, but then i end up bumming from my friends constantly and after a while i buy a pack to avoid being annoying. im curious to see how others went about quitting and how long it took for their cravings to go away. Quitting cigs is easy if you stick to your decision to quit. The 1st 72 hours are the hardest but after that it is a breeze.
I smoked for 31 years and quit 4 years ago with no looking back except with disgust.
Cold turkey is the only way to quit and according to statistics only 3% of the quitters actully make it going the cold turkey route.
I think you are a pussy if you can't quit cigarettes.

Quiting was the HARDEST thing I ever had to do... I said HAD to do because I got a heart attack and cancer inside a 2 year period of my life... I was a 4 pack a day smoker... Wintergreen lifesavers,,,bags of em and just keep chewing them is what I did... the cravings did not go away for me for a whole year,I stopped the lifesavers about 6 months in... I still don't believe I did it because I aways thought it was impossible...

    Good Luck!!!

i quit cold turkey, and every time i "HAD" to have a cig I would roll and smoke a joint instead, staying heavily stoned all day this went on for about 5 days then the cravings went away,, after that its all mental.. after a few weeks to a month I was pretty much done.

drinking brings out the cravings now and then, but last time i smoked a cig it actually made me sick!! so i know i wont be smoking tobacco again

The first thing you have to ask yourself is if you really want to quit. You NEED the motivation to quit, once you have that, then quitting really isn't that bad.

I quit a few years ago. I was a pack a day smoker for a number of years. I thought of the end rewards: No more depending and getting grumpy when I need a smoke, the money I will save, how better I will feel, how better I will smell, and no more paying the government to slowly kill me. Tobacco is 100% pointless and is downright disgusting.

I thought of the end payoff to quit. I didn't use gum, or a patch, I just threw them away for the last time and said fuck it. What's the point? I feel like shit, I smell like shit, and that extra $40-$50 a month would be nice to get something I actually want.

It did take me several times to do it though, but the last time, that was it. Cold turkey.

When I quit a carton of cigs was not lasting 3 days... I was smoking ultralights and they just make you drag harder and longer to get your nicotine fix... I say to many,, if I can do it anyone can...

My sister in law has gone through chemo and a tough bout of uterine cancer and she still smokes... there is all aspects of the addiction and for some to say 7 days that may very well true be for them,,,but there is the other side to this evil addiction...
