How can I skip work?

I want to go to the global marijuana march on May 5th, but I have work.

I have work tomorrow from 10AM to 6PM. I also live with my parents. I've also asked at work if I could have May 5th off, and I told my pothead coworker that I wanted to go to the march.

So the problems with calling in sick are:

• Never done it before
• People at work know I want that day off
• One guy knows that I want to go to the marijuana march
• Parents will know I'm perfectly healthy
• I have to go in the day before to get my check, and I will be perfectly healthy

What should I do?

Go in the day before coughing blood - erm, said blood can be fake if needed.

Problem solved. No one argues with blood.

Now, while thats a joke, it's also my advice.

erm.. i don't really know what to tell you otehr then it's YOUR job... it's not school... you can call in and say "i don't feel like coming in today, i've got the serious shits and this dude just showed up with an 8-ball..." and there's not really anything they can do short of firing you (with school you'd face legal complications)....

if i wanted off that bad, (depending on the job) i'd just tell them i'm taking hte day off.... i see people (through my wife's work, and when i worked at sonic, and johnny carinos) telling the bosses all the time they're taking hte day off.... the boss wasn't happy, but i never see anyoen get fired for it.... bosses have other ways of retaliation... giving you the shittiest assignments, hardassing you (breathing down your neck), shorting your hours... etc etc.... firing isn't the only thing bosses do to workers they're not happy with ya know...

Yea man, just tell your employer you got something to do and get someone to agree to cover for you the day you want off the next time you're at work. Easy.

get someone to cover your shift, then the boss cant complain about being short of staff.. and if nething.. just say you have already made pans for that day and you need it off...i dunno my boss is pretty cool.. if i need it off i will get it off.. but im a work aholic.. iv been working alot since im in training to become manager of the store.. so0o.. good luck on that:jointsmile:

OK I can't get anyone to cover for me, I already asked. There's only 3 guys, the rest are all girls. One of the guys is working the same hours as me already, and the other can't cover my shift. Girls can't cover my shift because I do heavy lifting.

I really like this job though, so I'd rather not get fired... If I were to call in sick, what exactly should I say? I've never done that before.

if you're faking sick, it's not about what you say, it's how you say it...

if you say in a cheerful-upitty voice "yeah man, here's the deal, i'm sick today so i ain't gonna be able to make it in" they're gonna know you're full of shit...

if you say in a strained voice "cough cough hey, do you think you ca-cough-n get anyoen to cover for me today? ~sigh indicating you're tired and worn out~ i'm not ~sniffle~ feeling too good...

well, i'm gonna try to get a doctor's appointment after i get off the phone with you, i really NEED you to get someone to cover fo rme today, i'll make up for it later... ~cough~

oh yeah, hold one nostril shut while on the phone (seriously, it will make a diffrence... if you do two, you risk sounding over elaborate... completely closing off one, is more then enough to simulate sinus problems (a more then common occurance among sicknesses...)

if you have never called in sick before and this is your first.. theirs nothing they can really do but say ok and if they ask for a doctors note then ur fucked.. my work always asks for a doctors note... just say you have food poisoning It's able to get you within 24hrs. so their going to have to believe it.. And the one guy you told, just tel him to keep his mouth shut.. u should be good :-)
