originalblu Reviewed by originalblu on . Plastic Pieces vs. Glass Pieces Why is it that glass is so much better than plastic? Does the plastic like absorb some smoke or something? I just feel like everytime I take a hit off a plastic bong or something it just isnt as potent. Rating: 5

ive got an acryl and i find it hits harder thaqn my buddy's glass. but mine is also a 2 footer and his is broken... either way, theyre pretty much the same, one wont get you higher than the other if theyre the exact same minus the material. and one isnt healthier than the other, the bowl itslef isnt plastic, its metal. the only difference is taste between metal and weed or just weed...

yeah so will alcohol and salt... why pay (what's i tgoing for now? like 5 a bottle?) that much for some cleaner, when you can get the exact same effect from like 1 cent worth the salt, and like 10 cents worth the alcohol?

sides i wasn't talking about cleaning out the pipe for cleanliness, in that sense they are equal... i was talking about ot keep the resin and smoke it

my guess is it was a small/thin as peice... right?

cuz i have a pretty damn small spoon (it's shorter then a pack of marlboro red shorts) but it's got pretty thick glass.... i've smoked like 10 bowls (no exageration, it does have a small bowl afterall) between me and 2-3 friends... all cheifing on it like crazy, and it never got over 'warm' (about body tempature, usually glass feels cool in my hand, it wasn't hot, it wasn't cold, it was just like equal with the temp in my hand)

ok there is nothing wrong with smoking aout of plastic as long as the bowl isnt plastic and no plastic is being burned as a result

glass has a cleaner taste , but the peices cost more and are alot less durable

plastic is only bad if your bowl is plastic or if you're burning plastic...
so as long as what you're weed is in isn't plastic.

thx for clearing that up kids. was hoping there would be some science behind something awesome like glass makes you higher! but yeah I guess I was kind of naive to think that acrylic absorbed smoke lol

Not that naive - Acrylic bongs will stain over time, plus they get scratched real easily. Plastic is much more porous than glass, so even when freshly cleaned, most acrylic bongs have that bongstank...

The main "problem" IMHO, with acrylic/plastic bongs (and some glass) are the ones that use a rubber h-grommet to seal the stem to the bong, or an o-ring to seal the bowl to the downstem - this is where 99% of them leak, since the grommet is not offset to allow for the proper angle of the downstem, and the O-ring was not designed for sealing in this configuration (gravity seating against a conical flare). The rubber parts absorb stanky bongwater. They can and will break down over time, turning into some form of mush or paste. What heat range is that grommet good for - will it break down in bongwater? Unless you are using Viton (doubtful), then you don't really know

A good glass on glass bong will last you forever if you don't break it, and will always seal as good as the day you bought it, if cleaned. The glass seals can be re-used indefinitely. Glass cleans easier than metal or plastic
