    Plastic Pieces vs. Glass Pieces

Why is it that glass is so much better than plastic? Does the plastic like absorb some smoke or something? I just feel like everytime I take a hit off a plastic bong or something it just isnt as potent.

Hmmm well if you're actually smoking out of a PLASTIC bong then you should stop haha. What you're probably thinking of is an acrylic bong. The reason that glasses pieces are preferred is for several different reasons. The big one is that your average lighter does not produce a hot enough flame to melt or break down the glass so when you smoke you are only smoking the bud. Whereas metal, wooden, and acrylic pieces can give off some stuff that you really don't want to be inhaling. The taste you get with glass pieces is a lot cleaner too.

your thinking acrylic actually, and no it's in your head.... the only thing that makes glass better then acrlyics or metal is the taste.... neither absorb smoke anymore then hte other, neither pose health risks (so long as they're actually bought and not homemade.. you can make a 100% safe homemade bong, but i can garuntee the bongs you buy are safe, the saftey of the bongs you make soley depend upon materials) neither conserve weed more than the other.... there is nothing that sets them apart, except taste (although alot of people will try to tell you diffrently)

i reserve metals and acrylics for starter peices.... they can show you the beauty and convience of owning either pipe or bong, without investing 2-3x (easily) as much money into a same sized peice.....

you invest in glass, you need to know how to treat a bong/pipe... otherwise you're paying 30+ (for the smaller spoons) for something that won't last you more than a month....

Metal gets hot fast, glass doesn't.

If you're actually smoking a plastic bong you should definetly stop. I think smoking plastic is really bad for you/

I have never had a problem with smoking from plastic bongs...

but this thread reminded me of my current dilemma: I'm debating on whether to get a new, better second bowl, or a small plastic mini-bong (those ones you can stuff in a backpack/messenger bag. Which one should I get? Hmmmm...

i guess i should take this time to say:

acrlyic bongs aren't the bowl... they make up the body.... the actual bowl/stem is metal.. the rest is acrylic...

although i forgot that point.. metal does get hot... i've never had a glass pipe so hot i had to set it down, no matter how many people, how much weed, or how fast we cheifed it.... i can get a metal pipe/bowl so hot smoking by myself that you can't pick it up (and i have extremely fire-retardent fingers... comes from years of smoking and dropping cherries... i can pick 'em up and throw 'em in the ash tray, or unscrew lightbulbs that have been on for hours lol...)

I throw a glass bowl into an acrylic bong w/ and ice catch. It hits really hard without ice since its small, but with some ice it hits very well. It cost me like $30 and it gets the job done, but I eventually wanna spend some real money and get some nicer glass.

glass pipes are not easy to clean.... if you look at a metal pipe, it breaks up into several parts, none longer than an inch (most not even half that) making it far easier to scrape/clean....
