all organic ferts, where to start?

i'm wondering, where should i start looking for ferts? just garden stores? what are the first items i should buy? some sort of mix, or a bunch of different types of things? thanks

go to a locally owned garden store/nursery.

most likely going to be your best bet on info and lower prices.

i honestly get pretty nervous asking for advice at garden stores; what am i growing? usually it's "tomatoes, basil, and other herbs"

Well, wherever you're getting the Ocean Forest, you should be able to pick up FoxFarm's (almost) organic nutes- would be simple as you could work right off their feed chart. ( tho I'd cut it in half, myself).

GHBB's pretty good, too.

Botanicare's Pure Blend stuff is nice.

My fav, hands down- BioCanna by a landslide.

The OF is a fairly hot mix, IMHO- you won't need to feed for a while. Might wanna cut it w/ some perlite.

The only one I've tried is pureblend pro and I have enjoyed it.
Unless you count the other stuff.... compost... worm castings... fish... kelp... blood meal... guano... etc.

are the all-in-one's really better than just buying single ingredients? for example, blood and bone meal, liquid seaweed, and guano? or are they just easier? especially if i start with a heavy-nute organic soil; i feel that i'd learn more by using single ingrediants than just using pre-mixed stuff from a company; this is definitely something i want to be doing for years (read: forever ) so i'm more interested in learning than anything else

Well, buying single ingredients would be a lot cheaper and it isn't that hard to find a good recipe.
Hmm, maybe you could take 2 cuttings from a plant, plant one in fox farm, the other in an organic mix you made, and compare results.
I'm using blood meal, bone meal, kelp meal, and jersey greensand for my plants.
It's a pretty basic recipe, you can find all the supplies at a good nursery.

yeah; it's no big deal but i just like the idea of adjusting things myself and being able to buy basic ingrediants anywhere rather than being clueless without a hydro store nearby course it will take more trial and error, but nothing is wrong with that; btw: today i arrived at my new place in socal; i also recieved a package from my doc from colorado with all my files, so i'm in pretty good shape to go try and get a med cert. the one thing is that i haven't seen my doc for a few months so i wonder if i'll have problems with my records not being "current". don't know if i've mentioned here, but i have chronic lyme disease and it's rather painful and debillatating; i'm gonna miss my specialist in CO; he's closing down his practice, great guy; spent 3hrs with me on my first visit; that's hard to find

i think i'll probably first try something like fox farm, but i don't want to keep buying something that expensive regularly; will be fun to transition to my own funky mix of compost, perlite, various meals and poops and all that

ps: scoped out the garage and there are some massive old white "garage doors" (really just huge slabs of wood) that might do well as walls for some growrooms oh the possibilities; first things first and that is med cert; i don't expect i'd be denied by a cannabis specialist, but i may need to start getting treated by my new doc down here first, maybe not. wish me luck
