The second coming
There is so much that was in the Bible then that is completely irrelevant today... Slave ownership, women as property, child sacrifices... How messed up in the head did Abraham have to be to slay his son to prove his love for God?
Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!"
"Here I am," he replied.
"LOL jk n00b!!!!" said the LORD.
And Abraham laughed, and said to the LORD, "O RLY???"
And the good LORD smiled at Abraham and Isaac, and stated "YA RLY."
Abraham laughed once again, pointed his finger towards the firmaments, and exclaimed to the LORD "LOL ur ghey!!!"
If you followed a good amount of rules in the Bible, you'd either be in jail, or dead.
For example, Exodus 31:15 says "For six days work may be done, but on the seventh, whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death."
Can you honestly see what that would do to our society? CHAOS.
Personally, if Christian philosophy IS real, I'd personally like to meet the Anti Christ, he seems like such a lovely man...

Elron Hubbert said he's the reincarnation of Buddha. Which doesn't even make sense considering buddha himself said he ended the cycle of rebirth when he attained enlightenment:S2:

I can only tell you this I,am the kind of pearson who hates religion, or
goody toshues, I would rather ride with the Hell angels, and eat drink. and
be merry for tommorow you die. But a long time ago jesus came into my
life that I can not explain, and He opened my eyes to the truth, and I could not turn away from hes love, so that night I belived in him, I can not write
down all the things that He has done for me, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that He is real and He is who He claimed to be. If He was not real why would a guy like me belive in Him? I know that not all will belive, Jesus
said my I,am the good shepard, my sheep hear my voice and they follow me.
God calls all men to Himself, but not all will belive.walk this earth to search and find.
and if you find the truth dont hide.
for this may be your last day to try.

if false prophets are anything like false teeth, the world is in for a treat.

I'm no preist, or even christian, but I think that the bible warns of false prophets because the intended message is to not blindly follow any man. Christ had his days on earth and is finished. When he actually returns in spirit he won't be a hobo, or a guy in a compound. The 'trumpets' will sound and something about falling to your knees will happen and there wont be any question he's come back.
So the moral is to not follow any man based upon faith alone.
Thats my taking on that part in the tale.

The second coming
Even if, for argument's sake, I accept all the stuff Jesus says in the Bible about the Second Coming, how do I reconcile that with this verse?
This can only mean one of two things: (1) somebody from that time period is still alive, or (2) Jesus' predictions in the Bible are not accurate.
You started wrong. You went into the question not believing. To me, that verse has not yet been fulfilled. But it WILL be. :hippy:
He's saying that there will be some standing in that same place he was and witness the Kingdom of God come. So we don't need anyone alive from that time period for the fulfillment of that verse. And he is coming. I'll bet the house on it. Every eye shall see him.
