Honey Bee Extractor Review
Heard about the butane hash oil extraction method and wanted to check it out. I have fond memories of the golden amber honey oil that was around in the 70's - one hit chit that challenged even my then fresh teenage lungs.
A quick internet search yielded the Honey Bee Extractor for about $50 delivered. I also found many plans for building your own but I chose the retail path. Arrived from UK one week after ordering, conveniently on my day off, so I ran out and got a couple of cans of triple-filtered Colibri butane and a 8 x 13 Pyrex bake dish.
**WARNING** - this process is highly flammable and very dangerous - the butane is evaporated into the air and must be done outdoors - explosion and fire resulting in death can occur if done indoors near a flame of any kind, even a pilot light.
Had a bunch of dried trim I was saving for bubble hash so I ground some up super fine and loaded the Honey Bee. OUTDOORS on the lawn I held the HB over the Pyrex dish and inserted the butane can till it emptied, draining into the Pyrex bowl. The butane boils a bit and after 20 - 30 minutes or so, evaporates leaving a thin film of oil.
I scraped the oil up with a utility blade and I can see at once that this is different from the clear amber oil of the '70's - it has a opaque light tan hue to it, more like oily bubblehash. The smoke from it is not as harsh nor as tasty as I remember but the high is fantastic!!! 3 or 4 hits and I was very very high. I'm a daily medical user and that's saying a lot.
Bottom line - it might not be the amber oil of old but it's a very quick and simple method of extracting the essentials from trim. I've not made bubble hash but this seems a lot simpler. It seems like I got good yield from the fairly small amount of trim I used. I give it a 8/10 :thumbsup:doco Reviewed by doco on .
