In his new book, former CIA Director George Tenet alleges that there was â??never a serious debate that I know of within the administration about the imminence of the Iraq threat,â?� suggesting the administration had made up its mind to go to war from an early stage.
On CNNâ??s Late Edition, Condoleezza Rice responded, â??We all thought that the intelligence case was strong,â?� adding that even â??the U.N weapons inspectors [thought] Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.â?� She concluded, â??So thereâ??s no blame here of anyone.â?� Watch it:

Rice would like the public to believe that no one is to blame because everyone was misled by the intelligence. In fact, U.N. weapons inspectors declared weeks before the invasion that Hussein did not possess WMD. The inspectors publicly lambasted consistently false and misleading U.S. intelligence leading up to the war:

[On March 7, 2003], the head of the IAEA, Mohamed El-Baradei, reported that there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein had any nuclear weapons or was in the process of acquiring them. Mr Blix said: â??By then, Mohamed ElBaradei revealed that Niger was not authentic.â?� British intelligence falsely claimed Iraq had been trying to acquire uranium from Niger. [4/28/05]
So frustrated have the inspectors become that one source has referred to the U.S. intelligence theyâ??ve been getting as â??garbage after garbage after garbage.â?� â?¦ The inspectors find themselves caught between the Iraqis, who are masters at the weapons-hiding shell game, and the United States, whose intelligence theyâ??ve found to be circumstantial, outdated or just plain wrong. Chief United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix told the U.N. Security Council that his inspection teams had not found any â??smoking gunsâ?� after visiting some 125 Iraqi sites. [1/9/03]

RICE: You know, I was asked about this, and I was asked â??Did he say slam dunk?â?� I said, â??Yes, but we all thought that the intelligence case was strong.â?� To the degree that there was an intelligence problem here, it was not just an intelligence problem with George Tenet, it was not just an intelligence problem with U.S. intelligence.
It was an intelligence problem worldwide. We all thought â?? including U.N. inspectors â?? that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. So thereâ??s no blame here of anyone.

Very true: I'd like to believe that Powell was misled by the bushies, in fact I'm pretty sure he was force fed this propaganda with Tenet sitting right behind him to make sure he didn't drop the ball. Colin Powell was an admirable man, and I must say I believe this is the reason He left as soon as he could. I'm pretty sure he would have left earlier if he could have. Powell was the guy that stopped the slaughter of Iraqis leaving Kuwait, He was a decent sort. They were killing them by the hundreds, with cluster bombs and Napalm and Powell said enough, stop the slaughter. Now the Neo-cons will tell you that is the exact reason we had to go back, we didn't kill enough. Why are the bloodthirsty assholes always the ones in the rear. My motto: if you start a war, you must go to the front lines asap, believe me, that would stop those cowards from starting wars.

I thought Colin Powell was one of the good guys too i just wished he wasnt so gullable.But i guess when you have war hawks around you day in and day out what else are you going to believe.But i think he had his doubts but he wasnt allowed to express them.Has he written a book about it yet?Iwould go out and buy it.
