First time grower w/a few questions
Hi,im trying to see how green my thumbs are and i have a few questions, and please before i get flamed remember this is my first time growing ANYTHING,i mean really my potato in water in grade school died LOL. Anyway,so far i have germed these bag seeds in paper towels left in a baggy for 3 days,i got sprouts about an inch to an inch and a half long on some. Also i wasnt sure if it helped but i did it anyway,i know plants thrive on CO2 so i exhaled in the baggy, figured it couldnt hurt. Anyway i put the sprouts in individual 4 inch pots (17 sprouts/pots total) filled with just potting soil, and i gave them what i would say is a good amount of water,i didnt soak the soil but it is pretty wet. This is basically where im at,i have them all on a tray out on the patio waiting on the sun,so my questions are:
How often should i water? I have read that watering when the soil gets dry on top and i have heard everyday.
Should i have added nutrients to the soil? I bought miracle grow but my brother who grows regulary inside said no,but again he is an inside grower so i am not so sure i should follow his directions.
At what point should i transplant the babys to the earth?
Before i transplant, should i treat the soil w/nutrients? Should i dig holes and use my own soil i bring along with me to fill in the holes then transplant?
At what point will i know which of my plants are male or female? I want to get the males out at the soonest possible point, also could someone post a pic of how to tell the difference? This is why i have so many,i want to make sure i get some females out of this.
Also i have heard that the longer the "sprout" at germination the worse off the plant will do,is this true? From what i have been reading the closer the sprout to the seed is when you want to plant them, but i did as i have read and waited 3 days.
Any help with these questions will help me alot,i want to become self sufficent to stop payin crazy prices for something that i hear doesnt take alot to do myself. I have read alot of posts in this forum and have learned alot just some questions i have no answers for. If this gos well,i intend on posting my results in basically a "How To" with pictures at each step when it is all complete. That is what the forum is missing i think, something like that would help guys like me.DryGuy420 Reviewed by DryGuy420 on . First time grower w/a few questions
seedlings should be watered and have wet soil for the most part but let them dry out so water a little every day.
add some nutrients but little beacuse plants need to get used to it. (ie: put less than you think)
also when you transplant to the earth give it professional soil that you buy in a store. use a potting mix or go with one w/o fertilizer and add your own: organic or chemical. mix it with a little native dirt that ur growin in.
I suggest you keep a close eye on them at your place for the first month befor putting it in the place wherever ur growing. transplant when you see a full root system forming in the cup you are starting them off with. also before you put it in the final place, cut slits into the roots to promote more root growth.
The only time you will know what gender is when they go to a 12/12 light cycle. U r gonna have to wait till the end of the grow season.
