HELP! Are my light too close? Or is it my strain?

    Hi All,

My plants are about a month old now. They are in 8" 2 gal, organic soil/perlite mix pots, and I am feeding them DYNA-GROW 7-9-5 every day. I also gave them one dose of fish emulsion thus far.

The plants are about 6-7" tall and are VERY wide with monster size fan leafs, plants are about 18" from the tips of the largest fan leafs from tip to tip. The stems are really thick, about 5/8" and they have 6 sets of nodes on them, very close together.

One plant has this tiger leaf like pattern where the spots are a little lighter in color. Not sure what that could be (hope they are healthy), aside from that and hight they look fine.

Oh, and I am growin Matanuska Thunderfuck and they are sitting 16" (not at all hot to the hand) below a 400 MH. Room is 78 degrees and 50 percent RH.

I just expected them to be taller by now I guess. But on the other hand, they are so very thick and well rooted. Kinda looks very compact. Is it the strain? Too close to the light? Or am I doing OK and buggin for no reason at all?

    Thanks!

Tiger leaf pattern and spots are typical of a ph problem.

Did the problem happen before or after you added the emulsion?

    do you know your ph?

They're shorter because you have your light down.....that doesn't mean it is too close....it means they like where you have it as long as you are not seeing signs of burn.

Sounds to me like Duke has your back on the leaf pattern thing....you should find out your ph for sure.

And now my own question....is giving them ferts every day a good thing? I really don't know.

Thanks for your answers guys, PH is at 6.1. The pattern on the leaves were there a week before I added the fish emulsion (2-4-.05). Would this be a sign of too much nutrients, or not enough? What can I add to fix this? Thanks!!

Out of 15 plants, only two have this pattern on them. The ends of the leafs curl in just a bit as well. I'd like to fix this, for these are two of my largest plants....damn I hope these are ladies.

Ph for soil should be 6.5-7.5. You are slightly low.....that is probably your issue. Up it a little. You can add VERY SMALL amounts of baking soda to your water to raise ph.....don't add it to your soil!! Small amounts......

I would definitely keep an eye on your ferts tho....every day just seems like a lot but I could be wrong.

OK, I have some PH up so I'll up it a bit till I'm around 7. The fert. box suggests to use it every time I water, I have a 50% perlite mix in there so it dries up real quick, so I water every AM because it does dry up fast. Everything else seems to be OK....I guess?
