First try growing and I have a question about some strange looking (to me anyway) growth I'm seeing. I have 5 plants that are at 3 weeks. No clue what type - got them from a friend who got them out of his bag. All growing under identical conditions, with one of them being tall and slender and looking "normal" to me. The other 4 are only about half the height of the other, but are much bushier. I got no problem with that - shorter is actually better for me. That said, all 4 of the shorter ones have their first node literally at the same place as the cotyledons. All the plants have 5 nodes now. The taller plant is 9 inches, and the shorter plants vary from 4-6 inches (the shorter ones have 5 nodes within about 3 inches).

Now, all that out of the way, the really odd looking thing I'm seeing is that all 4 shorter plants have something now starting to grow immediately below the cotyledons. On one of them, I can see that it's clearly something that's going to have leaves, but it doesn't look like anything else growing on the plants. The only way I can think of to describe it is that it looks like a bamboo shoot or the husk on an ear of corn, where all the leaves are long and curling around some central point (you can't see leaves in the pictures, but they're beginning to be visible on the leftmost growth on the first picture).

I know the quality of the pictures is really crappy. They don't show much, but it's the only camera I have for digital pictures. Maybe someone could help me identify these little growths.
