i never scrape it out to smoke it,
but occasionally if i dont have anymore bud on me but wanna take another couple hits i just rip my pipe really hard and get a couple resin hits, or carb hits. doesnt taste good, and a really harsh hit but it gets the job done.
so i'd say i problably hit my pipe for resin once a month, if even that.

ive seen someone hit an empty pipe for resin with a butane torch thing and get a HUGE rip, thick white milky smoke. it really suprised me
