also thinking of getting a fish tank heater to help with water temp when I start hydro. DUnno whether to go with a small 75 watt or go for a monster 300 watt one lol.
The maker of my tank insists I dont need a heater but its freezing in the uk rite now

how big is your tank?
use luke warm water to wash off the peat. if you can use some purified water that will help also.
about the heater i wouldnt use anything to big you have to think about how much water is gonna be in the tank. if you only gonna have 5 galons of water use a 25 watt heater for 30 gallons use a 150 watt heater
5x ((gallons of water)) = wattage of heater to use
i dont know the metric for a gallon but 300 watts is an assload of heat!
your trying to grow plants not make a fuggn pot of coffee!

lol I went with the 150 watt heater it has adjustable temp on side lol. My tanks about 50 litres I'd say lol.
I'm gonna grow a few in soil as back up just in case. My cuttings will be ww + argmageddon sensi.
What temp should I be aiming for . Will a digital thermometer come in handy??

I have a 55watt heater in my 10 gallon (38 liters) bubbler and I have to keep it on the lowest setting or it gets too hot. Do not forget, it takes about 6 hours for temp to stabilize after adjusting.
A good temp seems to be 21.9-22.5 celsiusI need to think of something clever to put here...
