Lighting Question
I think that it would be okay as long as it was 12/12 but for best results use Mh for veg and HPS for flowering because of the light spectrum differences. Why do you want to use both? Do you have 2 HID setups but only one HPS bulb and one MH bulb?

Lighting Question
Ever think of putting your lights on a rail system or something of that nature and having them move around. That way you can insure all your plants receive the Hps light.

Lighting Question
its even better to use both as you will cover a wider spectrum of light! you can even buy lights with a bulb of each in. As said above MH better for VEG as it covers the blue side of the spectrum which stimulates healthy leaf growth and HPS for flower as it covers more or the red and yellow spectrum which promotes better buds!
