germinating seeds

I have constructed a grow closet and I am trying to get some seeds to germinate. I used the plate method where you lay down a paper towel place soak it, lay down seeds then another paper towl, then soak it some more then placed it under a lamp in my closet. I have been watching it closely to make sure that the towls stay moist but have tried not to get too much water to the point that theyre floating. I woke this morning and the paper towls where as dry as they were on the role. I hope that i didnt screw my seeds up. I immediatley soaked them down again. Im using a spray bottle btw, and I have a 75 watt light about 16 inces above the plate. It killing me to see those beautifull plants begin to break out of those seeds. HE HE I hope I didnt screw them up by letting them get too dry. This is my first grow, so I know I will be making some mistakes, but Ive been doing a lot of reading. I dont no but ive germinated seeds that have been tryed out then re-hydrated
