Soil and Nute mix, how should I start

newbie here so sorry for kicking a down horse already

i want to build my own soil instead of having to change it all the time and also get a basis of what basic nutes i should be using.

i am using foxfarm ocean forest right now with about a 30% perlite mix, mixed in with some 0-7-0 guano.

my nute supply is maxsea 16-16-16 granulars but havent used it yet.

what would be a good guideline to building this up and the proper nutes before any specific problems arise.

- Sounds great but I would add a either a small / modest QTY of something organic with high N OR Add a low / modest amount of a Chem fert with High N. I say small / modest cause you already have the 0-7-0 in there. Don't overdo it. Sure you can leave it as is and just rely on th 16-16-16 grains for the N too if you prefer.

- Others may suggest a different canna specific blend but believe me that maxsea 16-16-16 will grow just fine. I like to wait like 1.5 - 2 weeks after they come up and hit 1/2 dose the first time. You'll get a feel after a while just by looking at them.

Just start at 1/2. If nothing burns, wait till the 2nd water from there and then give them a full dose at the rate on the label for indoor use. From there your gonna have to feel it out. It varies depending on soil and strain. Just watch for any leaf burn after you dose em. The more they can take without burn the faster they go. I personally don't like to go with the real small dose every water method although some people do. I like to go like every two or three waterings at a little higher dose.

Who am I to listen to.

I think that Ronnie is about 80% correct. FoxFarm is a Very, Very good Soil. and perlite should be 30-40%. but in Veg, (N) is the thing that is most important, at least I have learned. So higher (N) then others.

Also, do not out 1/2 strength Nuts in, then go to 100% next.. Nut Burn is easy to do. Start out at week two or so with 25% stength, and work it up from there 25% at a time.. go slow. get the feel.

From what I have read Nitrogen is most important during vegging.
