I don't care if there is a God

i guess to me it's what i think about more than anything; where did we come from, why are we here, what is (cliche-warning) the meaning of life?

to me, if we exploded and then non-biogenically formed into organisms that turned into bigger better, harrier organisms, it just doesn't feel right. i look at the world and i see all this beauty, and i wonder "why do i find this beautiful", what makes me think something is beautiful and something else isn't? and i just can't take everything down to a primitive need for survival. there seems to me there is more in the world, and more in myself than that, and i wonder where it came from, and "chance" doesn't satisfy me

I'm with you bro. Plus once we get old we can always just become born again christians, just in case. lol

Sorry, I know a lot of older people who had a shit load of fun when they were young, but as soon as they hit 50 or 60 they started getting scared and suddenly found Jesus...

YEah, you never know. At least with this stance I can change my mind either way that looks best. I am not locked into one belief or the other.

I was being sarcastic. I can't stand the old folks who lived a fun life and suddenly start preaching about the evils of drinking and all that crap. I'm only referring to the ones who become "great" christians at 70 years old and now look at me like I'm the devil because of my beliefs and actions.

But yes, you are right. If something happens in your life, that makes you believe in god than great. If something happens in your life that makes you certain god can't exist, that's fine too.

I'm not sure if this made since, my dog just woke me up to be taken out, I can't go back to sleep, and I'm still really tired.

Hmm, OK let's ignore the blatant irony for 1 second....

What if Samwhore is actually christ reborn? You just majorly insulted the second coming! I mean you can't be sure - love they neighbour and all that Wouldn't it be better to accept your differences and move one, you know - turn the other cheek?

But saying you won't put someone down for their beliefs and then spending your post doing that, well.... let's say SamWhore made more sense.

Wait, what? What does quantum mechanics have to do with a creator? What do the complexities created by Darwinian natural selection have to do with a creator? And what does relativity have to do with a creator? To me, all this looks like powerful evidence that the universe is mindless, following strict mathematical rules that break down to probabilistic functions on a small scale. The universe, so far as we can tell, is deterministic with the exception of some randomness at the quantum level.

Most importantly, it is a grave logical fallacy to say "There is something important that's unknown about X, therefore I know the cause of X must be Y." There's lots of shit we don't know because we haven't put the time and mental effort into figuring it out, or because there's just not enough information available to us. In the Middle Ages we hardly knew anything scientific about the universe. Would it therefore have been justifiable for someone in the Middle Ages to say that diseases and earthquakes and the weather and the stars prove the existence of God's intervention, simply because the causes of these things were unknown at the time?

According to my religion, I am my own god. According to yours (I'm just assuming) god is a higher power.

Think of it this way, was life in the B.C. era any worse or better spiritually speaking? When there in fact, was "no god" (even though B.C. is Christ, ignore God for now) many of the people got along because they all had the same values and they never fought because they never believed anything other than what everyone else did. Maybe they shouldn't have gone with the herd, but spiritually speaking, they all got along better than before Christ was born.
