I don't care if there is a God I am in this stage in my life I do not know what happens when I die I do not know if their is a God or if their isn't and I dont care I am just gonna take my chances. According to my religion, I am my own god. According to yours (I'm just assuming) god is a higher power.

Think of it this way, was life in the B.C. era any worse or better spiritually speaking? When there in fact, was "no god" (even though B.C. is Christ, ignore God for now) many of the people got along because they all had the same values and they never fought because they never believed anything other than what everyone else did. Maybe they shouldn't have gone with the herd, but spiritually speaking, they all got along better than before Christ was born.

Well, none of us can really prove that because we didn't live in that time. I was more referring to the Greeks and Egyptians. When their was no god, how they all got along.

God aside... You can't say people were more peaceful in the old days. Maybe I'm missing the point here, but many wars were fought before as well as after the birth of Jesus. I do agree that to much blood has been shed in the name of god however.

i sometimes think that religion doesn't really cause these bloody conflicts, it merely gives us an excuse to do what we most enjoy - killing each other.

I think that is a very valid point. We has humans do have a sick lust for war. I will be honest, it is one of my favorite things to study and read about in history.

I find the Knights Templar the most interessting. It could be an excuse for people to do what they want, but in some cases religious belief shows who is to be hated and destroyed. Or I should say, religion has influence into who should be hated and destroyed.

I'm really high and don't know if that makes much sense...

Anyway, my two cents on this is to ignore god entirely, and put your faith in man. Maybe if we believe in him a little more he'll start to believe in himself, and even start to work some of his shit out. If god existed, I'm sure he'd understand.
