    ok, small problem...

    hey ya'll, i'm still sorta new, i've smoked before but just recently started really smoking. Ok, problem.... I cough, a lot. I can't help it and it is embarrasing. Is there anything to help fix this or to build up a higher tolerance? Or am i doomed.

    ok, small problem...

    For me, the first few times that I smoked (few being a bunch), I would cough a lot and, although I really liked smoking, the whole coughing thing was kind of a downer. I've noticed, though, that since I've started (which was back in September), I have much more control over whether I cough or not, and most of the time I simply don't feel like I need to cough at all... I think maybe it's sort of a pain-tolerance thing, and as you smoke more, you cough less and less. I'm not saying that I don't ever cough (I do, sometimes a lot), but I do feel like I have more control over it now. As they say, practice makes perfect (thank God for cliches)!

    Also, what do you usually smoke out of? If it's joints, that might be your problem, although even those really small, three-inch pipes can sometimes hit really harshly.

    Same with ether. I've been smoking maybe 4-5 months now. I've noticed I don't cough as much. It's just because at first you have virgin lungs. As you get used to it you can control it, or it doesn't seem as harsh.

    I don't advise you to smoke cigs but they do help toughen you're lungs. Just put some smoke in you're cheeks, then inhale deep.

    i never cough now (apart from when a take like 5 hits from the bong in row)and dude why is it emmbarsessing < im pretty sure i spelt that wrong) you shouldn't care about it.... if you need to cough just cough your lungs up:thumbsup: .

    take smaller hits.... time... that's about it... after awhile of smoking you begin to get used to it... huge hits can still make you cough your ass off tho... i been smoking nearly 9 years now and i still cough over big hits...

    Smoke from a bong, don't over do it. The more you smoke the less you'll cough.

    You can block out the irritated feeling in the back of your throat which makes you cough. Just breath slow, try not to cough and have a bit of water - relax your throat [sounds stupid but works] and just go about everything as normal, trying to block out the tickly feeling that makes you want to cough. As you carry on smoking it should lessen anyway. The only time i cough now is when i laugh while taking a hit.

    Yeah when you first start tokin the good stuff you're definitely gonna cough.. it's inevitible. When I first started I coughed like a motha fucker and it didn't bother me. My boys would always tell me that if I coughed I knew I was doin somethin right and as a noob I needed to know that. Now when me or one of my boys cough every once in a while it's still a good thing. Haha it's always like damnnn you musta ripped the shit outta that and everybody laughs, ya know? But as for it bein embarrasing then yeah I guess it kinda is if no one else is. I'm sure you'll get used to the burning sensation and if not you'll just be like my one friend who coughs every time regardless, and it's still whatever.

    Heres how I was taught and it works no matter what you smoke from whatever you smoke it:

    Take your hit but if from a bowl leave your lips lightly purse them over the piece so as when you inhale to let some outside air in at the same time. After you get you hit hold it as long as possible. BUT if you feel the need to cough slowly let the hit out thus lessening the need to cough. It takes some control but after a while you should have no problem at all taking 2 liter bong hits all at once...

    Or start smoking cigs you'll never cough again!!! LOL

    Yeah it takes some time but it comes with toking regularly. My friend smokes everyday and still coughs like a dumbass so it must be harder for some people.

    Just kind of hold the cough in the back of your throat...

    BTW if you cough you actually get higher because it violently forces more smoke into you aerolas or whatev those are called
