I wonder if we as humans have our olfactory receptors and our taste receptors linked.
Yea. That's why when you have a cold or hold your nose you can't taste food well.

Your tastebuds can only relate how salty,sweet,sour or bitter a food is. The odor from the food going to your olfactory receptors is what gives the perception of different flavors.

It's all subjective anyway. Things you eat don't really have a taste or smell. It's just how your body perceives a chemical. Rotten eggs could smell like a steak to a dog.
