300: an ideological preparation?
Today i did watch the movie 300, and started to think. In the movie, the greeks are the heroes, and the persians are the bad ones. So, there is lots of scenes of persians (dressed much like they dress until today) being killed, slashed, mutilated, etc.
Today, the persia is called Iran. And seems the USA and another countries are seeking a reason to start a war against them (to get their petroleum, obviously).
So, for me it seems too much of a coincidence that at the same time, there is a movie showing persians being killed and destroyed. For me it seems it is like an ideological preparation, for the people think "oh, they are bad, its right to war against them" and agree with more one war.Coelho Reviewed by Coelho on . 300: an ideological preparation? 300 was based on a story, and either way you could of said the same thing in the 1930's about Germany. A battle is a battle, and their is always a side to choose from. . .coincidence. . .

yeah... but in 300, the story revolves around a small band of spartans fighing for their home country, and perhaps their entire way of life, against a seemingly inexhaustible army of people from a distant land across the sea.
So, it's kinda a complete role-reversal, dont you think?
I liked 300, but I'm not going to pretend to learn any history from it. I certainly don't know why some people need to make an issue about the portrayal of ancient persians as empire builders. They kinda were.
I think you're really searching to make something out of nothing.

They were Spartans not Greeks and they were Persians not Iranian. . .
It was a Frank Miller comic, and it was writen before Iran was even disscussed. . .

300: an ideological preparation?
i know there is a lot of differences, and i agree with you all... but im talking about a thing in an almost subliminal level... greeks, persians, whatever... what the scenes picture are "ocidental" people killing "middle-oriental" dressed ones, wearing turbans, etc, like they dress until today. And this things stay into the people minds, so when they see it happening in the "real world", its not shocking, cause they already saw it happening in the movies, and think its normal, or even right.
I hope i had explained better now. Re-reading my first posts, i realize they were not clear enough about what i did mean.

You're not the only one who's thought along these lines. I think Iv'e heard of people trying to down the movie as it's bad for the muslims or some crap.
Frank Miller laughed when he heard about it. He thought the idea was a bit silly. I do to I think.
