ok i heard florescent 40 watt "cool white" are best for the seedlings... and HID or HPS lights w/ a fan are best for when they get older. is that true if so how far apart do i put the light from the pot? ... new and trying to grow my first plant. have no clue what im doing but im doing my homework and learning. just need advice on setting everything up! like how to set up grow room and what all i need.

I have 2-20 watt floro's damn near touching the top of my tallest seedling and they don't seem to have any problem with it so I'd say as close as possible as for the hps it depends on the wattage but I have a 400 and I've been able to get it about 6 inches from the top of the plant...I could probably get it closer but I don't always remember to move the light up each day so having a few inches to spare isn't a bad thing

you growin in soil? what watt is the hps you have? etc gimme some info and ask any questions you want I'll do my best cause I'm in the process of learning about lights as well...

I'd say those T5's seem to be the most popular floro's but any good floro setup should be fine but for the main growing (flowering) you definately want an HPS

the type of HPS you want depends on several things...I've just read a ton about ballasts and all that and I'd say your best bet is the lumatek ones...don't ge tthe gray style that's old but any colored one means it's new I found out they don't always mix the colors the same and the guy told me "to be honest we aren't really all that concerned about the color it's how it works" haha anyway the digital ballasts aren't much more expensive but run more efficient so you'll make any extra money back over time...umm the 250-400-600-1000 are the ranges so it depends how much ya wanna grow and restraints you have in your growroom
