p.s. the $5 thing you saw is ancient and no longer functions ... the idea behind it was to reduce annoyances, but only like 2 people ever actually paid over the entire time.

when i log in chat,sometimes it expires before i get logged on
i can refresh and log in then log in
but it sometimes is blank
and at time boards will freeze up if ,and i say if
im using anything else,say yahoo or something
dont know if help ya with settings?


other times my lil java machine seems to just not want to load it,
i could send ya info,my console shows if it help

I have been having trouble login in period, the boards, the chat, and its why I aint been aorund for a long time.. and also im the guy who was forced to use this cheezy java interface because someone decided to do away with IRC completly. A BAD ERROR in my book, cause IRC was and still is more stable than any java client I have saw used on dial-up.. and sure maby many people are using high speed with the java client, and maby it works fine for many, but for many it does not, and im very educated in regard to computers, electronics and software type issues.

My name may say DannyDope, but im no dope.. I have a degree in this matter and I hope to see things change here in the future in regard to IRC maken its way back here and promply..

Also expecting people to pay for chat is beyond my way of thinking, what makes this place any differnt from the free chats, it certainly aint the quality of people, I mean come on people lets get real, all the regulars here from years back know what went on here and how bad it got and the hack wars and the drama that unfolded..

But to cut off all IRC users because of a few bad people doing bad things is bad street justice in my book.. Thats no differnt than punishing the whole class at school cause one kid messed up and wont come forward!

My Advice was given but never taken, and that was to keep IRC active and let the regulars using advaced scanning software catch the people responsible for the hack jobs at this site...

Running away from the problem wont fix it, and java is technically easier to hack than IRC.. Active X control can be over-ridden easy if the hacker was to really want to pry into a system..

Being I aint been here in long time, I would love to hear some feedback on this issue.. I mean ya mean to tell me since java came online here all is better? HA!! If ya told me yes, I would not believe it...

I never in my life saw so much drama over logging into a chat..

All im asking is for people to study the IP addys, look and remember who your talking to before blaiming something on someones Name.. Names can and are Hijacked by hackers trying to cause trouble... STUDY YOUR IP's PLEASE!! I cant enforce this, can only ask ad tell ya its a good Idea..

Trouble logging in here ... what problems exactly?

Note that the original message boards (Marihemp Network) are separate from here - each has its own separate user DB.

The connection speed really only matters during chat applet loading - shouldn't matter after that; I personally still use dial-up on occasion and the chat loads/runs fine. Many problems dial-up folks have experiened have been due to not waiting until the applet is fully loaded/running ... timeouts can be an issue if the loading is slowed down - running other programs (messagers, p2p, etc)/browsing other sites before loading is complete.

Chat here is free - has been since the beginning of this board back in Jan-2004; the original cannabis.com chat was also always free - you may be thinking of the Cafe chat which only existed for a short time; most cafe members weren't using it / didn't need it.

The problem with IRC is that it gets too technical - most folks just want a nice friendly chat. You mention "advanced" scanning - klines don't work well for folks sharing the same IP; changing IPs rapidly.

The biggest problem with IRC is not IRC itself, but how many IRC channels degenerate into powerstruggles between the technically savvy and the not so savvy; powerfreaks.

Hacking of the software itself was never much of a problem with IRC chat ... biggest complaint by chatters was being knocked off by other IRC users; not talking DoS per se, but rather they were taking advantage of quirks in the IRC chat software/protocol to knock people off. In summery, eliminating IRC eliminated most such problems.

Java chat isn't perfect - and like any software has its glitches, but overall the java chat works much better - IRC chat is never coming back; many chat software packages no longer support it/phasing it out.

Give the java chat a chance ... yes there are far less user options and that may be what really turns you off from it, but as I wrote above, many folks just seek a nice chat without the frills/confusing options.

No names have been hijacked ... there are two separate boards, each with its own user DB. Most folks understand that relying a user name alone is asking for trouble; IP address isn't much better.

The "river" user name hasn't been used here in ages and no posts were ever made under that name here. At some point the name may be released - keep an eye out for it / check in on chat when I'm on and remind me in about say a month and I'll see what I can do
