if you have 7 plants in a GT424 tray. which is about 4ft long and 2ft wide.
which will get me a bigger harvest, as in put them in flowering early so they stay small and finish sooner or wait a extra week b4 you put them in flower and have large plants wat take a bit longer.
also i grown a plant once which reached about 2ft tall and the buds were rock solid, yet different harvest when they grow to 4ft or more they have been softer and more spread out buds. or is this all to do with the strain. all though the small 1 i grew was smaller than the others so the light was about 2 to 3 ft away so is this why they were rock solid because they werent running to the light which is a 400w and kept about 12 to 16 inches away.

The smaller your light, the shorter your plants should finish and the closer your light has to be.

That sounds pretty good for a 400 and I think you have basically answered your own Q; keep plants close to the light for rock buds.
